Tons of Adventure in Bucas Grande Islands

Politically speaking, Siargao Island, or more simply known as Siargao, is a group of islands east of Surigao City. Siargao belongs to the province of Surigao del Norte, and 9 of the 20 municipalities of the province can be found in the island.  When someone hears the name of the island, the first thing that comes to mind is surfing. Siargao is dubbed as the surfing capital of the Philippines because of the giant waves crashing into its shores especially during the months of August to November, making it a perfect destination for pro-surfers.

Still unknown to many, there are a lot of other breathtaking sights and experiences in Siargao Island besides surfing. Somewhere southwest of the island, in the town of Socorro, are clusters of beautifully scattered islets called the Bucas Grande Islands.

Bucas Grande is simply a paradise. There are lots of interesting places to visit and activities to do, and guests are assured of an exhilarating tropical experience. Visitors can create their own itineraries that may include boating, jellyfish watching, cliff diving, spelunking, snorkeling, trekking and swimming among others. The activities are so many you might need two days if you want to visit every single attraction. A side trip to Bucas Grande is also a good complement to your surfing adventure.

Sohoton Cove

Said to be the best attraction in Bucas Grande, Sohoton Cove boasts of an underground river and caves, rock islets and interesting rock formations. One interesting fact about Sohoton National Park is that it can only be accessed through a half-submerged entrance, making the experience more exciting.

Hagukan Sea Cave

This is a half-submerged cave which becomes fully submerged during high tide, providing a more thrilling experience for guests. Inside the cave are interesting stalactites .

Magkuku-ob Cave

This interesting cave has a half-submerged entrance during high tide and has colorful formations inside. A short climb inside leads to a diving platform where you can jump your way back to your boat.

Bolitas Cave

This cave got its name from the pebble-like formations created from droplets of stalactites.

Tiktikan Lake

Tiktikan Lake is a small, serene lake that guests can explore using a paddle boat. It offers a relaxing atmosphere, perfect for some reflection time.

Jellyfish Sanctuary

This is a one-of-a-kind experience and a must-try for all visitors. See yourself in the middle of a lagoon with thousands of stingless jellyfish surrounding you. My favorite Bucas Grande experience by far.

This high-end resort offers luxury right in the middle of nature. Its private villas are reminiscent of typical Mindanao architecture—structures built on stilts that provide a grand view of the crystal clear waters.
